American Golf Acquires Abbotsley Golf Hotel

Ambitious plans for the property include expanding the accommodation facilities from 17 to 45 bedrooms

American Golf (UK) Ltd has acquired Abbotsley Golf Hotel near St Neots in Cambridgeshire on a 25 year lease. This brings to 17 the number of properties in the United Kingdom operated by American Golf.

Abbotsley Golf & Country Club is owned by the well known golfer Vivien Saunders OBE, past winner of the British Ladies Open and a widely respected golf instructor. The facilities include two 18 hole golf courses, a 9 hole course, a floodlit driving range, an hotel, four squash courts, a health and fitness suite and excellent restaurants.

Geary Leathers, Managing Director of American Golf (UK) Ltd, said, “We are delighted to acquire this outstanding property that fits well into our existing portfolio. The Club has developed an excellent world wide reputation through the talents of Vivien Saunders and

Jenny Wisson and we look forward to enhancing that over the coming years. The Vivien Saunders Golf Schools will continue to be a feature at Abbotsley.”

Vivien Saunders and her agents Strutt & Parker decided early on that American Golf (UK) was the ideal partner to take over the running of the Club. Abbotsley becomes the third acquisition this year for American Golf (UK) Ltd, the other two being Chartham Park Golf Club near East Grinstead, West Sussex and The Hertfordshire Golf and Country Club in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.
