Cleeve Hill has been home to a golf course since 1891, the course was original laid out by Old Tom Morris. The present venue comprises of an 18-hole course with a clubhouse, car parking and a greenkeeping compound. Located on the north eastern side of Cheltenham and is about five miles from the town centre.
The course is laid out over the largest common in Gloucestershire, Cleeve Common, which includes the highest point in the Cotswolds at 330m. The Common is a conservation area within the Cotswold National Landscape, making it a major destination for both local visitors and those from further afield, including walkers on the Cotswold Way, cyclists and horse riders. An estimated 100,000 visitors come to the Common each year and the number is increasing.
Tewkesbury Borough Council has now begun a bidding process for a new operator to take on a new long term lease, to not only continue golf at this historic course, but to develop the community use of the Common to the general public and the local community.
