Golf fans with a spare £7.25 million to invest in a property that enjoys one of the best views in world golf are being invited to buy one of four new townhouses that are being built within a short pitch of the Swilcan Bridge at the Old Course in St Andrews.

The four separate three-storey, 3-bedroom properties replace a single family home located on a half-acre site on Old Station Road that overlooks the opening and closing holes of the world’s most famous links.

The building project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, well in advance of the 2027 Open Championship in St Andrews.

A spokesperson for sales agent Knight Frank, which is leading the sale of one of the properties, said: “With an uninterrupted view of the Swilcan Bridge, 17th green and views stretching across the Old Course and St Andrews West Sands, this unique development will likely be the last of its kind to grace such a prominent position.

“The Swilcan Townhouse is an exquisite three-storey townhouse, seamlessly blending contemporary luxury with the historic charm of its surroundings. Designed to the highest standards, it features spacious, light-filled interiors with floor-to-ceiling windows and carefully curated materials.”

The ground floor includes a vestibule, utility areas, and a south-facing ensuite bedroom with sliding doors. The first floor houses the primary suite, complete with a dressing room, ensuite bathroom, and views overlooking the Old Course. A second spacious bedroom with dressing room and an adjoining bathroom completes this level. The top floor offer an open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area with a large external terrace. The property includes a two-car garage and secluded private gardens.

The property will offer panoramic views of the opening and closing holes of the Old Course

Douglas Spowart, Relationship Director at Shawbrook Bank, which provided financial support for the project, said: “This project is not only about creating four exceptional homes, but also about contributing to the legacy of St Andrews. Funding a site of such cultural and sporting significance required careful structuring, but through close collaboration with the client and our professional partners we were able to deliver a solution that brings this landmark development to life.”

A spokesperson for the owners of the development, said: “This site has been part of our family’s story for more than 60 years, so we were determined that any development would be worthy of its setting beside the Old Course and surrounding properties. Our aim is to create something that not only delivers outstanding homes but also contributes positively to the character of St Andrews.”
