Canterbury Golf Club has announced the dates for its hugely successful Festival of Golf week, sponsored by top local accountancy firm Burgess Hodgson, will this year take place from 5th to 12th July.
Nearly 1,400 golfers are expected to enjoy all formats of the game throughout the week over the classic Harry Colt-designed course located on the outskirts of Kent’s celebrated cathedral city.
The highly anticipated seven day extravaganza of golf will commence with the prestigious Kent Order of Merit Pilgrims Cup, a 36 hole medal on Sunday, 5th July, with the week culminating in the members-only two-person scramble the following Sunday (12th July).
“Burgess Hodgson have been long term supporters of Canterbury Golf Club and have always sponsored one of the competitions held through the week but this year they have really stepped up their support by agreeing to be the headline sponsor for the whole Festival,” comments General Manager, Roger Hyder . “It would also be remiss of me to not thank our daily event sponsors Perspective, Shepherd Neame, Brakes, Café du Monde and WWMartin.”

Burgess Hodgson is a full-service accountancy practice based in Canterbury, combining London level expertise with a local, relationship-led approach. Founded in London in 1938, the firm moved to Canterbury in 1976, and this year celebrates its 50th anniversary in the city.
Rachael Florence, Burgess Hodgson’s Head of Marketing, said “Supporting the Canterbury Golf Club Festival of Golf reflects long held values at Burgess Hodgson. Sport has always played an important role in the firm’s culture, reflecting the same commitment, drive, and resilience that underpin success both in sport and in business.”

Established in 1927, Canterbury Golf Club’s 18-hole layout was designed by arguably the finest course designer of the time, Harry Colt, who also boasts Wentworth, Sunningdale, Rye and Camberley Heath among his 100-plus creations. He also played a major role in the re-designs of Muirfield, Hoylake, Royal Liverpool and Royal Portrush.
Though first laid out as a downland course, the gradual introduction of oaks and silver birches along the fairways have altered the nature of the layout that now has more of a parkland feel, though a little gorse and broom can be found on some holes. Set on undulating terrain, the par71, 6,272-yard layout provides a challenging round of golf with its mix of open par 5s, tight par 4s and challenging par 3s.agslf Club
