Cheshire Golf has been named County of the Year at the 2026 England Golf Awards, recognising an extraordinary year of unity, growth and competitive success across one of England’s leading golf counties.
The award was presented at the England Golf Awards ceremony at The Hilton Manchester on March 3, honouring Cheshire’s outstanding commitment to supporting its 95 affiliated clubs and delivering impact at every level of the game.
Since unification, Cheshire Golf has built strong relationships with all 95 affiliated clubs across the county, with each Director working closely with a dedicated group of clubs. Three county-wide roadshows brought together club managers, PGA Professionals and delegates to collaborate on key areas including the WHS, Course Rating, player development and competitions.
Cheshire Golf has also demonstrated its commitment to its clubs through direct support, coordinating courtesy tee times and providing financial assistance when severe weather disrupted playing opportunities earlier this year.
Communication and engagement across the county has increased dramatically, with social media interaction rising by over 300% and more than 1,000 Instagram followers, helping players and members stay connected to county teams, achievements and development opportunities.
A major focus has been on growing the game, particularly among girls and women. Junior girls’ participation has doubled, with half now benefiting from county-funded coaching programmes. Expanded competition opportunities, more inclusive scheduling, and new initiatives have strengthened pathways for players of all ages and abilities.
Cheshire’s success has also been reflected at the highest competitive level. The county has enjoyed exceptional performances nationally, including victory in the English Boys’ County Championship and securing a remarkable ninth consecutive Richardson Trophy, underlining Cheshire’s position as one of the strongest counties in England.

On an amazing evening for Cheshire, the Need Golf Centre in Nantwich also won The Facility of the Year Award. With 50,000 annual visitors and an 85% return rate Need Golf has transformed a local range into a hub where confidence, friendship and perception of the sport are positively reshaped.
