English Golf Union supports National Golf Week

The EGU has again agreed to support the PGA with its initiative to introduce more people to the game through BAE Systems National Golf Week from 21st April to 1st May 2000

Free golf lessons and clinics are to be given to complete beginners by PGA qualified professionals. BAE Systems National Golf Week runs throughout the UK from 21st April to 1st May 2000 and it is hoped to attract at least 25,000 participants. Both the PGA and the EGU feel that it is very important to encourage more people into the game and provide a stable foundation and clear pathway into the game.

Colin Montgomerie will again support the event and he strongly believes that you are never too old or too young to start the game. The only right time to learn is NOW!

The EGU Associate Membership Scheme will complement National Golf Week by offering all participants a chance to continue their enthusiasm from the free lessons and join the scheme. This grass-roots initiative for non golf club members is aimed at encouraging people to take up the game whilst educating them on the rules and etiquette of golf and proving recognition of their ability through a handicap. This will hopefully offer a pathway through to golf club membership.
