Golf Ireland has extended its congratulations to Rory McIlroy following a sensational back-to-back victory at the Masters in Augusta.
The Holywood golfer secured his second green jacket when he finished on 12-under par, one shot clear of World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.
It was an elusive first win here last year which completed the Grand Slam and McIlroy now joins an illustrious group to win two-in-a-row at the Masters, where he sits alongside Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods.
The World No.2 has also won six Majors and his continued excellence and standing at the top of the global stage reflects the strength of the game at home in Ireland.
“It was amazing to experience Rory winning his first green jacket last year, but winning back-to-back Masters titles is a remarkable achievement and says a lot about his incredible consistency at the very highest level,” said Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly.
“What he did here last year in completing the Grand Slam was historic, and to come back and do it again 12 months later, with all that comes with it, is hugely impressive. It reflects not just his ability but his mindset.
“For Irish golf, days like this really matter from the grassroots right through to our high-performance amateurs and professionals. This gives people a lift, it brings energy into clubs, and reminds everyone of the strength of the game.
“Rory came through the club system in Ireland, and that connection is still there. There’s a real sense of pride in seeing him achieve something like this, and it’s another special moment for Irish golf.”
