Extra grandstand space at Open Championship

Higher than anticipated advance ticket sales for The Open Championship mean that additional grandstands will be provided at Royal Troon

Spectators attending The Open Championship at Royal Troon in July will have access to additional grandstand seats as a result of higher than anticipated advance ticket sales.
“We have been delighted with our advance bookings that show a good increase on the comparable figures for 1997,” said David Hill, director of championships of The R&A. “In keeping with our policy of making it as easy as possible for spectators to view the world’s top golfers and to be given value for money, we are proceeding with further additional grandstands.”
Approximately 19,000 seats in 22 grandstands will be sited at strategic locations around the course so that the public can sit in some comfort as the drama of The Open unfolds.
The erection of the grandstands started last month with the 18th hole already nearing completion. These stands at the 18th can seat seven thousand spectators.
