Love Golf Design renovates Links Course at Bear Lakes

Love Golf Design to carry out reimagination of Florida club's Jack Nicklaus-designed Links course.

Work is well under way at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Love Golf Design is mid-way through a comprehensive renovation of the Links course, which provides a foil to the club’s Lakes course.

Davis Love III, his brother Mark Love, and architect Scot Sherman are heading up the project, which will see the original Links course, which was designed by Nicklaus Design, being completely reimagined.

The new course, which is due to be completed in November, will take inspiration from the American links-style courses designed by Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor over a hundred years ago and will focus on thoughtful shot placement and multiple angles of approach to appeal to golfers of all skill levels.

“We are honored to partner with Bear Lakes Country Club on this exciting new chapter,” said Davis Love III at the groundbreaking event. “Our goal is to create a course that feels both rooted in tradition and perfectly suited to its South Florida setting – a course that members will enjoy walking and playing every day.

“We want to keep Jack’s original vision, make it architecturally different, memorable and fit the land a little more. We’re looking for a course that features tall, native grasses with very few trees.”

Mark Love added: “From routing to final detailing, we’re working closely with the club’s leadership to ensure the Links Course reflects the vision and character of Bear Lakes while delivering a distinctive and enduring golf experience.”

The club said that the new course will benefit from advanced drainage systems and sustainable design principles to ensure optimal year-round conditioning and environmental stewardship.
