A new chapter is set to begin for a long-established golf venue in Shropshire, with the former Mile End Golf Club in Oswestry reopening under new ownership as Smash Golf UK on May 1.
The site, which has undergone a significant redevelopment programme in recent months, will relaunch featuring a modernised facility aimed at appealing to both traditional golfers and new audiences.
Key upgrades include a state-of-the-art TrackMan-powered driving range and a redesigned nine-hole course layout, alongside plans for a new on-site café.
Smash Golf UK, led by owners Andy Humphreys and Craig Walton, acquired the venue earlier this year and has since invested in enhancing the customer experience. The business describes the site as its “flagship location” and a blueprint for future expansion.

In a statement on Smash Golf’s Facebook page confirming the opening date, the company said it was “excited to welcome customers” and showcase the transformed venue. To mark the launch, a limited pre-opening promotion is being offered, with customers able to purchase four golf passes for the price of three.
The relaunch brings to an end more than 30 years of ownership by the Thompson family, who established Mile End Golf Club in 1992 and built it into a well-known local facility.
The redevelopment reflects a broader trend within the UK golf industry, where operators are increasingly investing in technology-driven practice facilities and shorter-format courses to attract a wider demographic and boost participation.
