England Golf has been shortlisted for a prestigious 2026 BASIS Sustainable Sport Award in recognition of its ground-breaking Sustainability Platform, which is transforming how environmental sustainability is understood and delivered across the game.
England Golf has been shortlisted in the Innovation category, highlighting the impact of an industry-first initiative that combines national habitat mapping, sustainability analytics and digital technology to help golf clubs make informed, evidence-based decisions about their environmental future.
Developed in partnership with The Environment Partnership (TEP) and supported by YourPact, the platform provides England Golf and its affiliated clubs with detailed insight into sustainability risks and opportunities, covering biodiversity, carbon capture, water management, flooding and climate resilience.
Launched earlier this year, the platform has already begun helping England Golf identify priorities at both national and club level, enabling targeted support and providing robust evidence of golf’s positive contribution to the natural environment.
The platform covers more than 1,650 affiliated golf courses across England and has created the first nationally consistent environmental evidence base for the sport.
Kirstin McEvoy, England Golf’s Head of Sustainability, said: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted for a BASIS Sustainable Sport Award. What makes this project particularly valuable is its ability to transform complex environmental information into practical, actionable intelligence.
“The platform helps identify the areas that matter most for individual clubs, providing valuable data to inform decision-making and investment. It enables us to target our support where it can have the greatest impact and gives clubs clear guidance on the actions they can take to strengthen their environmental sustainability.
“As a small sustainability team, it has become an invaluable tool in helping us focus our efforts while demonstrating the important role golf can play in supporting nature recovery and climate resilience.”
The England Golf Sustainability Platform was designed to move beyond traditional reporting, bringing together a national habitat baseline, sustainability prioritisation framework, web-based mapping application and field data collection tools into one integrated system.
Clubs can access course-specific insights, helping them better understand environmental opportunities and challenges while supporting long-term planning and investment decisions. The innovation has also helped strengthen golf’s position as a leader in environmental sustainability.
Golf has a strong presence across the 2026 BASIS Sustainable Sport Awards, with five projects and individuals from across the sport shortlisted across multiple categories, underlining the sector’s commitment to driving meaningful environmental progress.
The winners of the 2026 BASIS Sustainable Sport Awards will be announced at the 2026 BASIS Sustainable Sport Awards on Thursday 5 November, which take place at All England Lawn Tennis Club, London.
