54 appoints commercial director for Asia

Sam Lake to lead commercial strategy and revenue growth across Asia, working alongside 54's clients to develop new funding opportunities, sponsorship programmes and partnerships.

Leading sports and entertainment group 54 has appointed Sam Lake as Commercial Director, Asia, as the business continues to expand across one of the world’s fastest-growing sports and entertainment markets.

Based in Singapore, Lake will lead commercial strategy and revenue growth across Asia, working alongside 54’s clients to develop new funding opportunities, sponsorship programmes and long-term partnerships. He will advise rights holders, venues, brands and host partners on strategy, partnership sales, digital monetisation and the development of new revenue streams.

Lake joins 54 from global sports and entertainment consultancy CAA Portas (formerly Portas Consulting). His focus will be on continuing to identify and develop innovative global sports and entertainment properties and reflects 54’s continued investment in Asia, where the business works with rights holders, investors, fans, venues and governments to unlock value across the sports ecosystem.

Vicky Jones, MD of 54 APAC, said: “Asia continues to present some of the most exciting long-term opportunities in global sport and entertainment. As investment grows across the region, our clients increasingly need strategies that connect ambition with sustainable revenue and long-term value.

“Sam has an outstanding track record of helping organisations unlock commercial growth through strategic thinking, innovation and execution. His experience across consulting, digital transformation and partnerships makes him an exceptional addition to our leadership team as we continue to expand our presence across Asia.”

Lake said: “54 has built a reputation for challenging conventional thinking and helping clients realise opportunities that others overlook. That approach strongly resonates with me, having worked across emerging technology, energy and media sectors prior to joining the sports and entertainment industry. Sport will be the last remaining human experience in a world increasingly dominated by AI, and the value of sport as a lifestyle, a community and a commercial engine for brands will only increase in this changing world.

“Across Asia, we are seeing a growing demand for innovative models that create sustainable and long-term value, as opposed to more traditional one-off engagements focused only on brand exposure. I’m excited to join the team and help our clients unlock this potential.”

Prior to joining 54, Lake led consulting, commercial, partnerships and digital transformation initiatives across multiple international markets. His recent work includes developing new platforms for multinational entertainment businesses, creating investor and operating models for emerging sports properties, advising on venue commercialisation and delivering digital-first engagement models that generated significant year-on-year revenue growth for sports organisations.
