Berkshire-based golf technology company Clere Golf has launched Course Companion, a club-branded product that gives members and visitors quick access to key course information from their phone.
Course Companion builds on Clere Golf’s existing WHS Handicap Calculator and has been developed to help clubs present useful player information in one simple, mobile-friendly format. Players can open it by scanning a QR code or using a direct link, with no app download required.
The product can include a WHS Handicap Calculator, daily pin locations, local rules, course maps, visitor information, tee booking links and club-branded information pages. Clubs can also extend it into a digital course guide if required.
Gareth Grewcock, Technical Director at Clere Golf, said: “The handicap calculator has been well used by clubs, but we felt it could do more than simply answer one question before a round. Course Companion takes that starting point and gives clubs a broader way to present useful information to members and visitors. It is still very simple for the player. They scan a QR code or open a link, and the information is there.”
The launch follows a refreshed user interface for Clere Golf’s handicap calculator, with the product now becoming part of a wider companion for clubs and players. Once created, Course Companion can be shared across a club’s website, visitor communications, starter areas, pro shop, signage, printed materials and pre-arrival information. Players can access the information instantly on mobile, while clubs retain control over the details they want to make available.
Grewcock added: “Most clubs are not short of information. The issue is that it can be spread across noticeboards, emails, PDFs, scorecards and the website. We wanted to give clubs a simple way to pull the important player-facing details into one place, particularly the information that people need before or during a round.”

Clere Golf says Course Companion is intended to sit alongside printed course guides, scorecards and signage rather than replace them. Printed material remains important for clubs, particularly for presentation, visitor experience and retail sales. Course Companion supports that material by handling information that will change, such as pin positions, local rules, course details and player guidance.
Grewcock said: “Printed course guides and scorecards still have a clear role. This is not about replacing them. It is about giving clubs a flexible way to keep certain information current between print runs. When pin positions change, or local rules need updating, clubs should be able to make that information available quickly.”
Course Companion is available from £100 per year and can be tailored to the information each club wants to provide.
Clere Golf provides course mapping, survey, course guide and digital course management services for golf clubs, venues and tournament operators. Its technology has also been used in major tournament environments, supporting course information, planning and operational delivery.
