La Cala Resort has completed the latest phase of its ongoing improvement programme, with the official opening of a new access tunnel, new road infrastructure, additional parking spaces and Hole 64.
The Spanish resort, home to 63 holes of golf, marked the openings at a formal event attended by guests, media, local government representatives and invited dignitaries.
The €5m project, which covers the new tunnel, roads and parking improvements, follows the completion of La Cala’s hotel refurbishment programme and forms part of a sustained investment strategy focused on improving guest facilities, hospitality spaces and operational flow across the resort.

The project includes a new 330-metre ring road connecting the north and south of the resort, two new roundabouts to reorganise internal traffic flow, and an expansion of the main car park from 173 to 333 spaces. A new lift now provides direct access to both floors of the Golf Clubhouse and The Golf Shop, while the 50-metre tunnel linking the América and Europa courses removes buggy crossings from road traffic.
The works also include close to 1km of new buggy paths across the Asia Course, further improving movement around a resort that records 140,000 golf rounds per year across four courses and 400 hectares.

Hole 64 adds a new rest and refreshment space on the Asia Course, with a terrace, grab-and-go service and 24-hour vending. Designed to support golfers before, during and after their round, it strengthens La Cala’s food and beverage offering and adds another practical hospitality point within the wider resort experience.
Sean Corte-Real, General Manager at La Cala Resort, said: “La Cala has always been known for the scale and quality of its golf and resort offering, but our focus is on how that experience works in practice for every guest. These improvements are about making the day flow better — from the moment guests arrive, to the way they move between courses, enjoy the clubhouse areas and spend time with us beyond the golf course.
“The completion of this latest phase, including the new tunnel, road infrastructure, additional parking and Hole 64, is another important step in our long-term investment programme and reflects our commitment to improving the resort while preserving the character and atmosphere that make La Cala so special.”

The openings come during a period of growing recognition for La Cala Resort, which was recently ranked 56th in Golf World’s inaugural Top 100 Luxe Resorts in Europe. The ranking recognises destinations that combine high-quality golf with premium accommodation, dining, amenities and overall resort experience. In its review, Golf World praised La Cala’s newly refurbished hotel as ‘superb’, described the spa as ‘one of the best around’.
The recognition follows a sustained period of investment across La Cala’s hotel, guest facilities, hospitality spaces and wider resort infrastructure.
Later this year, La Cala will host the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho, the season-ending event on the Ladies European Tour. Taking place from 26 to 29 November on Campo Europa, the tournament will bring together the top 75 qualified players on the LET, placing La Cala at the centre of the final week of the European women’s professional golf season.
Corte-Real added: “Recognition from Golf World, combined with the forthcoming Ladies European Tour season finale, shows the momentum building around La Cala. Our responsibility now is to keep improving, keep investing and ensure every part of the resort experience reflects the standard our guests expect. The resort has always had scale, but the continued focus is on detail — how people arrive, how they move, how they relax, how they dine and how they experience La Cala as a complete destination.”
