Loch Lomond Whiskies releases limited edition malts ahead of The 154th Open

Scottish distillery unveils limited edition whiskies to celebrate this year's Open Championship.

Loch Lomond Whiskies has unveiled two limited-edition single malts celebrating The 154th Open, set to take place at Royal Birkdale in July.

The two expressions – The Open Course Collection 2026 (£195, 46.9% ABV) and The Open Special Edition 2026 (£45, 46% ABV) – mark Loch Lomond Whiskies entering its ninth year as ’The Official Spirit of The Open’.

Both whiskies are presented in packaging inspired by Royal Birkdale, with designs influenced by vintage travel posters and reflecting the heritage and atmosphere of links golf.

“Royal Birkdale holds a special place in the history of The Open. As one of the purest tests of links golf, it has provided the stage for some of the Championship’s greatest moments,” said Michael Henry, Master Blender at Loch Lomond Whiskies. “Through these new expressions, we have sought to explore the spirit of the course, the players and the craft that defines this historic venue.”

In a tribute to The Open’s history, The Open Course Collection 2026 pack features every Championship venue, date and winner, from Prestwick in 1860 through to Royal Portrush in 2025.

“We are delighted to build on our long-standing partnership with Loch Lomond Group across The Open and the AIG Women’s Open,” said Henry Keeling, Director – Commercial Partnerships at The R&A. “Working with partners who share our ambition for these championships – and for the continued development of golf – is central to what we do.”

Just 3,000 bottles of The Open Course Collection 2026 will be available worldwide, making it a highly sought-after release for golf and whisky fans alike. The 19-year-old expression is matured in American Oak before a six-month Tawny Port cask finish, delivering layers of red berries, dried fruit and sweet spice.

The Open Special Edition 2026 was created in collaboration with Colin Montgomerie, honouring the people, places and moments that define The Open. It is matured in American Oak and finished in Argentinian Malbec casks, adding notes of dark berries, red fruits and gentle spice.

Both expressions are distilled using Loch Lomond’s Straight Neck Stills, allowing precise control over flavour and creating the brand’s signature fruit, honey and soft smoke character.

Fans attending The Open will be able to purchase both expressions at the Loch Lomond Whiskies stand at Royal Birkdale throughout Championship week.

The releases are also available via www.lochlomondwhiskies.com and selected retailers.
