Heritage Golf Group, the fastest-growing owner/operator of golf and country clubs in the United States, has announced the acquisition of Independence Golf Club in Richmond, Virginia.
Following this latest acquisition, Heritage Golf Group’s portfolio of golf clubs in the US has grown from six in 2020 to the milestone of 50 today.

Independence joins Heritage’s fast-growing portfolio in the state of Virginia, which includes 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, Spring Creek Golf Club in Charlottesville, and The Dominion Club in Richmond. Located 20 minutes from The Dominion Club, Independence strengthens Heritage’s footprint in the Richmond market.
Recognised as one of Central Virginia’s premier semi-private golf destinations and event venues, Independence Golf Club offers 27 holes of golf, including The Championship Course, an award-winning 18-hole course originally designed by acclaimed architect Tom Fazio, and The Bear, a nine-hole par-3 course.
The Championship Course has been consistently recognized by Golf Digest as one of the state’s top public golf courses and currently ranks No.18 in Virginia. It offers five sets of tees ranging from approximately 5,000 yards to more than 7,100 yards, providing an enjoyable challenge for golfers of every skill level.
The club has a longstanding history with the Virginia State Golf Association, serving as host of the Men’s State Open from 2007-2013 and again from 2020-2026.
