Moor Allerton Golf Club has been acquired by The Club Company, with the Yorkshire venue joining the UK’s largest owner and operator of country clubs’ 18-strong portfolio.
Originally founded in 1923, with its original 18-hole course laid out by Alister MacKenzie at a site near Moortown. The club moved to its current site on the edge of Leeds in 1970, with its new 27-hole layout designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, in what was his only UK project.
Richard Calvert, chief executive officer of The Club Company, said: “Moor Allerton has a proud heritage, a loyal membership and a reputation that has been built over generations. We see ourselves not simply as owners, but as custodians, with a responsibility to protect the heritage, traditions and values that have shaped the club for more than a century. Our approach has always been simple: respect a club’s heritage, plan for the long term and continually enhance the experience for members and visitors alike.
He added: “Great clubs never stand still, and our ambition is to build on the exceptional foundations that already exist at Moor Allerton, drawing on our experience of operating leading country clubs and an unwavering focus on delivering an outstanding member experience, whilst remaining true to the character and values that define the club today.”
The Club Company will work closely with Moor Allerton’s members, employees and the wider golfing community as it begins the next chapter for the club.
Ian Land, a spokesperson for Moor Allerton Golf Club, said: “Throughout this process, it became clear that The Club Company shares our belief that great clubs should continue to evolve whilst remaining true to the heritage and values that make them unique.
“Their proven track record of investing in well-established country clubs, enhancing the customer and member experience, and operating successful country clubs gave us complete confidence that they are the right organisation to build on everything that has made Moor Allerton so special.”
Moor Allerton is currently ranked the 26th best course in Yorkshire by Top100golfcourses.com.
